If not for The Tattler I would not be writing comedy and would probably be selling insurance or lab animals. Please feel free to write.

Comments: I was a counselor during my time at Taconic and those summers contain some of my most compelling memories. My closest personal friends today are former counselors--John Miller, Joey Sinreich, Tom Schaub and Kenny Shaw. I doubt that I will ever forget the Kinoy's and the legacy they left behind. Their visionary perspective on children made Taconic a special place for many.

My memories of Taconic are so vivid and I can remember them as if they were yesterday! I have e-mailed a few of you and spoken to a few Taconities on the telphone. It is amazing how we can remember things so long ago. The summers at Taconic were the best! 2006: I am so sorry I missed the reunion in June 06, I will try to make the next one. Great summers as a camper and counselor. Would love to get emails from people who knew me. 2007: I have moved again, now live in Tarrytown, NY with my fiance, will be getting married in August 07.

Aronoff, Mark
Taconic Years: 1970
Home: Vienna, Austria
Email: mdaronoff@yahoo.com
Comments: I am thrilled to find this site on the internet! 1970 was one of the best summer's I ever had particularly since I met a girl that I fell in love with. As things happen, years later we have different lives but I will always remember the summer of 70'! Bob Kinoy will never be forgotten! For all of us who have reached our sixth decade, keep in mind that not much has changed since the 60s, 70s. I think more and more about the summer of 70 and the incredible time I had at Camp Taconic. It may have been short, but it was sweet. And here I find myself mixed up in international politics about nuclear weapons. The thought of the summer of 1970 with all of you is a milestone in my life. If anyone were to suggest some sort of reunion, I would crawl through lava to get there.

Home: Rochester, New York
Email: d.bachman53@gmail.com
Comments: It's amazing how quickly time goes by. My years at Taconic included a true mix of "life experiences" but helped me (eventually) to start growing up. I appreciate(in hindsight) the support and friendship of various bunkmates and counselors throughout those "formative years"(including,in part Jay D., Paul W., Hank R. and Skip H.) Well, life goes on! I've been a practicing school psychologist in the rochester area for approximately 20 years. If you can't beat them, then join them I guess! Anyhow,I hope that all has been going well with the Taconic crew from my general era and I would look forward to hearing from you. October 2009 - Still alive and well, although I have a new e-mail address (d.bachman53@gmail.com). My best wishes to all alumni, especially those from the mid-late 60s era.

Having retired from 40 years of visual art education, creative interdisciplinary programs and serving on numerous useless committees, I am presently working on my sixth book of poetry and drawings (see Barnes&Noble.com), live on 76 acres of woodlands in a passive-solar Japanese teahouse, making lots and lots of one-of-a-kind functional pottery (see web site).

Comments: Just want to give a shout out to all the conselors and kids of Taconic - 1988-style! Especially the boys of Bunk B3: Tardo, Paulsey, Dog Boy, Monkey Boy, Cujo, Grasshopper, Einstein, Itchy, and Space Case. You know who you are - at least I hope so, becasue I don't. Can't say all my memories of Taconic are vivid - could be all the trips to John's Tavern that summer. And I can't say all the memories are that great. But, I do remember the people and good times I had. They were so good in fact, that I decided not to sully their image by returning again. However, that summer does hold a place in my heart and who could forget the sight of Dreama Buford and her pink bathing suit!!! Wow! Hope to hear from some of those folks. Take care and love on ya! PURPLE FISH ROCKS!

Comments: Like everyone else, I look back on my years at Taconic as some of the best of my life. [It was pretty fun working there too.] Singing the Beatles and John Denver tunes in the morning, playing basketball all day, water-skiing on Lake Ashmere, and trying to get a girl to goto the Point at night-- it just doesn't get much better. Life is much more complex now. No one calls me "Danny" anymore. Jodie Siff is a Rabbi. Also, when I break into a women's dormitory at night in New York City, it's called a "felony," whereas at Taconic, it was a harmless "raid" and only meant a lecture from Don Hamlin and getting "docked" from playing in the doubles tournament at Greylock. It should be no surprise that I am still single. Happily, my law firm has incorporated the milk-n-cookies Taconic tradition, although it's only on Thursday afternoons and Carrie Siff does not make announcements. That's about all I have. Happy Holidays all. Danny Brown

Comments: Spending the summers at Camp Taconic was one of the highlights of my entire life. One of my favorite stories to tell was the one where Neil Edley thanked his "magic bracelet" as hot beef barley soup spilled all over one of his bunkmates during lunch. I remember teaching Billy P and Michael G how to drive. Zoe, Sparkin' Larkin, Pete, Suzie, Laurel, Jenny, Joefromspain, Gabster, Matt, Don, Steve...miss you all.

Last to eat at the barbecues (thanks Bob E.), first out of the bunk after lights out. "Twin Twenties", Joe Janetti. And yes, we did silence the morning bell after a daring raid. There wasn't a single day that I didn't love. I think of you all often, the boys in the bunk, and Loryn, Liz, Abby, Jenny, Danae, Kathy, Jane, ... Send an email! Jeff

Along with having a new son, I recently moved from the Pioneer Valley, in Massachusetts, to the shores of Long Island Sound, in Niantic, Connecticut. Hope everyone is having a happy and a healthy New Year!

Comments: It's a little odd seeing all of these familiar names after so long. I've kept in touch with Jon Glick and ran into a few others over the years: Jonny Greene in the Hamptons, NY, and after I got out of Sing-Sing, I moved to Boston and managed a bar (the Bow & Arrow), where I ran into Benji Secler -- a student at Harvard -- a few hairs lighter, but still charming. The Bow & Arrow sent me packing for Betty Ford, but I'm feeling much better now, and I haven't had a drink since breakfast. After stints in North Carolina, Los Angeles, Palo Alto and a marriage to a woman who turned out to be wax figure of Ted Kennedy, I find myself in San Francisco where I'm gainfully employed as an underware tester. I enjoy hunting narcoleptic turtles and I'm a former Olympic synchronized swimmer. Well, OK, basically very little of this is true, but I'm feeling a bit punchy after a long day at work -- forgive me, but wasn't Taconic all about just having fun and not worrying about what anybody thought of you?! Well perhaps that's a bit fantastically nostalgic, but you know what I mean.

I've been a lawyer for the past 30 years doing civil rights litigation (employment discrimination) My introduction to law school is one of those small world stories. I worked in Mississippi during Freedom Summer '64 then for the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party where I met Arthur Kinoy, Bob's nephew (I think was the relation) and Arthur convinced me to go to law school. Its worked well. Like most of you, my years at Taconic are among my most favored and happiest memories.

Comments: Yep, I'm one of the real old-timers. I was nine years old when I spent my first summer at Taconic back in 1940. I came back every year for the next eight years and the fond memories linger to this day. I still do a pretty good rendition of "Camp Taconic is my home sweet home, it's the best in the USA." I was reminded of those glorious summers recently when my 8-year-old granddaughter told me about a two week drama camp (not sleepover) she'd be attending this summer. And for the next half-hour, I regaled her with tales of swimming in Lake Ashmere, morning sings, campfires, carnivals, counselor shows -- and field trips to Waconah Falls. It's amazing, after nearly 70 years, how fresh and clear my mental images of Camp Taconic remain.

Comments: Hi Folks: I was a camper at Camp Taconic during the 60’s, for one year, sometime between 1963 and 1967. Can’t remember the exact year. Something that just came on the radio just reminded me of this. As I remember it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I do remember some kind of huge relay race, which seemed to go on all day. And a rather crude cabin. And my nickname (the tooth) given to me as I lost one while at camp. I don’t suppose you would have any photos of me? Pictures from my childhood are pretty scarce. Thanks.

After graduating from the Berklee College of Music, touring with the New Kids On The Block (don't laugh), doing sound effects for Sony/Columbia television, and making several tries both in Boston and LA at the music biz.. I gave it up for the computer biz! Now I'm the IT Director for a Japanese company in Los Angeles. It seems that Adam Beck (a name I remember, but face I can't place) and I have followed similar paths in that respect. That's the the short story... if you want the long version email me anytime. Comments: Hello everyone! I'm so glad that I found this Web site. I have fond memories from Camp Taconic, especially my last summer when I worked in the infirmary with a wild and crazy British nurse named Gillian. But I do regret losing touch with the friends I made at camp. Which reminds me: If anyone knows the whereabouts of Elizabeth Estroff, please help me to get in touch with her! Nowadays, I'm working in journalism, as a reporter at a daily newspaper in Orlando.

Comments: I have such wonderful memories of so many of the campers and staff at Taconic. Taconic got me in touch with my creative side and taught me so much about friendship, sex, and transitioning from childhood to adolescence. i have a family know and live in California and I feel a little sad that they have never experienced the magic of 8 weeks away from home, with great people and the freed om to explore what interests you. I would love to hear from Nancy Kahn, Vicky Semo, Jan,Joey Berger,David Cohen,David Schwartz, the Deaners, and so many other people. I can't remember what I did last week but I have such strong memoires of Taconic.

Comments: One of my favorite times during a summer day was to hang out around the rock by the tennis courts. I loved sitting in the shade after a hard workout, talking tennis with the counselors (especially Steve Greenfield). We were there during the 60s, and the songs we sang during Sing were some of the best songs of all time. I'll never forget how ecstatic I was when Edmund Franco and I beat Debbie Gordon and Steve Genkins in a mixed doubles match. And the Tanglewood concerts in 1970: Janice Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, BB King, The Association. And all those peanut butter and jelly sandwiches...

Comments: I loved being an adolescent at Camp Taconic. The plays and the evening activities and special events still stay with me. I was also a mothers helper for Jeremy and Adam Beck when they were infants. I never got to see them grow up but it is nice to read that they are leading interesting lives. I am now living in Massachusetts, and working in a private school as a Curriculum Coordinator. The creativity of theschool reminds me of the playfulness of the Taconic summers. Even though Taconic was only two months a year, I felt that the friendships I made there were some of the sweetest in my life.

Comments: Married, working in advertising, and living in NYC - no babies yet! I was so psyched to find this website (actually came across it looking for a Taconic site) and was even more excited to see my counselor from the 14s on there!! I am still best friends with my camp friends and we endlessly talk about camp. If we could go back tomorrow...ahh, wouldn't life be GREAT?? Just give me a day to hang out on tennis rock, run to the admin (slipping on the gravel), get a splinter on the ping pong tables (I'm sure those are long gone), have milk (chocolate milk!) and cookies on the TAC lawn, ring the bell, go waterskiing, spot someone waterskiing, sing "rocky top" from the teenage benches, have a meeting in the "question mark area", do the "salty dog rag" after a talent show, get a snickers from candy order, go on a hike to hinsdale, CARAVAN!!, get a phone call during dinner, play team tennis, get "dressed up" for banquet, even get caught by an O.D. trying to raid B-15. I couldn't even begin to list all of my amazing memories - those really were the days. All of you who are still campers, you don't know how LUCKY you are!!

Comments: Truly amazing to read the list of names of the Class of '66 in TZ's post, and to be able to picture every one of them as if it were yesterday. No doubt 35 years have left their stamp on us all, but ahh, the memories -- canoe trips, Sing, Al Beck's Waterfront, Balladeers, jam sessions with Augie and Jeff, West Side Story ("they said it couldn't be done"), sneaking past the OD heading for the girls' bunks down on the south end...

I am currently in Bolivia, South America on a Fulbright Fellowship researching the impact of microfinance loans and savings programs on the livelihood of the indigenous women. There are so many others I remember, and your right Harvey, one of the best things about Taconic was you could be comfortable just being you. Comments: The fishing pole that I borrowed from Mike Nimaroff (or was it Jon Glicksman?) back in the mid-1970s finally showed up when my parents moved out of their Great Neck home a year ago, and I and my siblings had to help them clean out the place. I had tried to track down Jon (or was it Mike?) back in the late 1970s to pay for the fishing pole, but didn't succeed. Unfortunately, I had no way to transport the fishing pole after I found it, so I threw it out.

Comments: Scene: Deli counter of Food Emporium, Ossining, New York. Players: Sharon(Roth) Alpert and Bob Ezrol Time: springtime, 1996 or thereabouts Imagine my surprise on that day when I found myself perusing the pimento loaf beside a man who I recognized instantly (except that he was not sporting bermuda shorts on this particular day) as the one and only Bob Ezrol! If not for this chance meeting, I would never have reconnected to this wonderful place and time of my life. Sadly, I have not kept contact with anyone from those times, but I still remember them with such warmth and gratitude. It never ceases to amaze me how many of my experiences during those six summers revisit me in various guises, most oftentimes in the form of music; I don't know if it was the times or the place(I suspect it was a combination), but it's proven to be a powerful influence. Taconic gave me a chance to find my voice (literally as well as figuratively) and that really did change my life. Whether I'm singing for my kids, or on some community stage or chanting Torah,( I became Bat Mitzvah last year at 41!), I can't help but wonder if I would be comfortable or even capable of doing these things which mean so much to me if it were not for those summers spent at Taconic. I was so sorry to hear of Don Hurst's death. Nobody on Earth could sing "I'm in the mood for love" like he could. There's that Taconic musical memory activated again! Feel free to drop a line to reminisce, anyone from those years-I remember just about everybody.

Comments: This box looks awfully small to comment on the best seven summers of my life. Camp was without a doubt heaven. I am an artist living in NH with my girlfriend of eight years, Pam. I brought her to visiting 4 summers ago. I was suprised to see that my name was still on the ceiling in one of the JC bunks from '79 and not suprised to see the same tubs of peanut butter on the tables in the dinning hall. I'm sure I ate a total of three tubs over the seven summers I attended taconic--ahhh fond memories. I'm really looking forward to the reunion this summer. Do we really have to rest during rest hour? If so I'll bring jacks and backgammon. 2007: I'm currently studying sculpture at the Florence Academy of Art. Any alumni coming to Florence in the next three years ( 2007-10) let me know. I'll be in the states during July and Aug. Hope to see some of you soon. Ciao!

Comments: I was twenty years old when I started as a counselor at Taconic. I often found myself on the couch in front of the fire in the Admin late at night, and the only other person there was Bob Kinoy. We had discussions about kids, camp, politics, women, music, and life in general. Bob was the first adult to talk to me as an adult. This meant a lot to me. Still does. I was lucky to find Camp Taconic. What could be better than spending summers in the out-of-doors, having someone else cook the meals and working with kids. It was the perfect environment for making life-long friends. I'd be happy to be sitting on the rail in front of the Admin right now.

Comments: I heard about this site from Ben King while working with him on a commercial. I can't believe there is a place like this. Just looking at the pictures and the names jogs the memories, and what nice memories they are. The buddy system, cookouts, all the talent shows, editing the tattler, raids, necking behind the archery range, pillow fights, walking to friendly's, concerts at tanglewood, and they go on and on. As for me, I'm married now, with three wonderful kids, 8,4, and 2. Almost ready for taconic years. I would love to hear from anyone from our age group that remembers those summers.

Going to the Joan Baez concert was a thrill, especially when her surprise special guest sang: Bob Dylan. How can we ever thank the Kinoy's enough for providing the environment?! And what great friends were made that summer. I'm an architect now in New York. A few years ago in Somerville, MA I married Paul Aferiat, with whom I've been for 31 years!!

Comments: I was thinking about Taconic just the other day. I was trying to explain to a friend from Europe how I spent my summer as a kid and became reminiscent of how much fun those days really were. I learned much more than I realized, heard my first classical concert, first Shakespeare, first kiss, first really big fish (or maybe I was small, but it seemed big)and a lot more. Like most of us, I don't get summer vacations off anymore, but when I am hiking in the foothills here in the Bay area I think about summer in the bershires. In case anyone is interested, workwise, I split my time between doing research at Stanford University and seeing patients at San Francisco General (Any one in the bay area feel free to say hi)

Comments: I'm thrilled to have bumped into this web site. Camp Taconic provided a summers worth of rejuvenating, fresh country air, new friends and good times. I now live off a gravel road in Vermont and practice Civil and Structural Engineering. I'm searching for Jon Meyers, Ken Water and Amy Weiss. (I may have Amys last name wrong, I think she went to Duke University.)

Comments: The web site is great! A wonderful way to hook up with old friends. My 9 year old daughter went to Taconic for the first time this past summer. We picked her up on the last day of camp and when the buses starting to pull away from the front of the Playhouse, I broke down and cried like I used to in the 60s and 70s every August. My husband and kids thought I was pretty weird, but it brought back so many wonderful and sad (last day of camp)memories to see those buses leave Taconic.
